Join us at our first In Person event since lockdown for the November Business Breakfast as we explore preparing your business for what’s coming in the year ahead and leading through crisis. 
We’ll be talking to our leaders in Fire, Police and Emergency service about:
Leading through crisis (ie covering COVID, the 2019/20 bushfires, floods and handling dramatic change)
Crime and fire prevention (how businesses are impacted by fire, flood storm etc) and how to prevent cyber and other crimes,
How to access help if your business or your clients are impacted

David Elliott MP (Minister for Police and Emergency Services & Member for Baulkham Hills)
David has extensive experience in the public and private sectors with a focus on media relations, public policy and public advocacy. 
As the longest serving Liberal Corrections Minister, David maintains an active interest in the Justice cluster. He is currently the Minister for Police and Emergency Services having previously served in the Counter Terrorism and Veterans Affairs portfolios.
David is the Member for Baulkham Hills in the NSW Parliament. It was in this role that he chaired the Committee for Economic Development, the Ministerial Consultative Committees for India and Taiwan and the St John Ambulance Parliamentary Auxiliary.
 
About our Panellists:
 
Fire and Rescue Commissioner Paul Baxter.
Commissioner Paul Baxter has more than 30 years of fire service experience. Originally, he served as a volunteer firefighter, then as a firefighter with the New Zealand Air Force and then the New Zealand Fire Service. He worked through the ranks and was appointed Chief Executive and National Commander; a year after the devastating 2012 Christchurch earthquake. Five years later, in 2017, he was appointed Commissioner of Fire and Rescue NSW.
 
In addition to his firefighting credentials, Commissioner Baxter was an ambulance officer for many years.
 
He holds a degree in business and is a certified company director with the New Zealand Institute of Directors. He studied advanced management at the Melbourne School of Business. Paul is a Fellow of the Institution of Fire Engineers and a Member of the New Zealand Institute of Management.
 
Superintendent Andrew Hurst 
Superintendent Hurst is the Commander of the NSW Police Force Crime Prevention Command which incorporates the 
 
Crime Prevention Support Unit
Domestic & Family Violence Team
Mental Health Intervention Team
Aboriginal Coordination Team
Program Development Team 
 
He has been a member of the NSW Police Force for 26 years and has spent most of his career in Western NSW including Bourke, Wilcannia, Wellington and Dubbo.
 
Andrew is dedicated to continuous improvement, innovation and collaborative, evidence-based approaches to policing. 
He has studied widely, graduating with Distinction from the University of Cambridge (Master of Studies - Applied Criminology & Police Management), and graduating with Distinction from Charles Sturt University (Master of Business Administration – Law Enforcement and Security). 
He has also completed Executive Education at the Harvard Business School (High Potentials Leadership Program) and the Harvard Kennedy School of Government (Senior Executives in State & Local Government)
 
Carlene York APM (NSW State Emergency Service Commissioner) 
On 30th October 2019, Carlene was appointed NSW SES Commissioner. Carlene leads the combat agency with legislated responsibility for storms, floods and tsunamis. It is also the largest volunteer provider of rescue services in NSW and supports communities through capabilities in urban search and rescue, vertical rescue, road-crash rescue, land search, community first responders, swift water rescue, community engagement, flood planning and preparedness activities. 
Commissioner Carlene York joined the NSW Police Force in 1980 and held various roles during this time including the position of Assistant Commissioner, Human Resources. Her career covered several areas including forensic services, operational policing, prosecuting matters of complex and sensitive nature; strategic review of diverse and complex issues within field and specialist operational at an executive level. Carlene also led several critical commands as Commander in the Forensic Services Group, Northern 
 Region and Human Resources, providing strategic leadership and direction in the areas of human capital, forensics, policy development, operational planning, emergency management response and delivery of frontline police responses. 
Carlene was awarded the Australian Police Medal in 2014, is a recipient of the Australasian Council of Women & Policing’s highest honour – The Audrey Fagan Memorial Award and the Australian HR Director of the Year in 2017.
 
Darrin Batchelor (Superintendent - Commander, Hills Local Area Command)
Superintendent Batchelor began his public service career in 1989 with the Federal Attorney General’s Department.  In 1994 he joined the Ambulance Service of NSW as an ambulance officer working at several metropolitan locations.  
Superintendent Batchelor’s policing career began in 1996 commencing at City Central Police Area Command.  In 2002 Superintendent Batchelor transferred to the Joint Asian Crime Group, State Crime Command until 2005 when he transferred to the Northern Beaches Local Area Command working in general duties and criminal investigation.   In 2015 he was promoted to Detective Inspector, Investigations, at the Professional Standards Command.  Superintendent Batchelor was promoted to his current position as Superintendent of the Hills Police Area Command in July 2021.
Superintendent Batchelor was designated a Detective in 2003 and was a police negotiator for 13 years, having been trained to Counter Terrorism Team Leader level. 
He has attained a Diploma of Policing, Advanced Diploma of Public Safety (Investigations), Graduate Diploma in Police Negotiation and is currently studying the Graduate Certificate in Applied Management.
Superintendent Batchelor’s wife is also a police officer and they have three daughters and he enjoys spending time with his family, paddling an ocean ski in and around the Harbour and Pittwater and plays the drums in a rock cover band.
 
Event Restrictions and Personal Responsibilities
Our event world is very different to pre COVID times and therefore there are several key restrictions and personal responsibilities you need to read and agree to “Prior” to completing your registration.

It is a privilege in these times to be able to come together and we have combined these restrictions & personal responsibilities for the benefit of all attendees, to the best of our ability.

NOTE: Unfortunately, non-compliance with any of these restrictions and personal responsibilities will lead to you being asked to leave the event and no refund will be forthcoming.
 
IMPORTANT


SHBC hold our in person events within venues owned and operated by member businesses, and we are required to comply with any rules that a venue applies to our bookings for these events. Therefore, where a venue has a restriction on any person attending their premise (under the current Public Health Orders) we comply with that restriction, as we would with any other OHS & RSA rules they require us to follow at any other time.

At this time all event guests must be able to show a Double Vaccination Certificate to enter the venue and use the venues QR Code to Check-in.

If for any reason on the lead up to the Event you: 
 
-  feel unwell and are going to be tested for COVID
-  Are awaiting the results of a COVID test
-  have been requested to, or are self-isolating for any reason by NSW Health Department Public Health Directive
 
Please inform us prior to event and we will transfer your booking to the following month or months depending on your situation.
 
Venue Check-In and Event Registration
1) Please arrive 30 minutes prior to event commencing so we can get all attendees into the event on time 
2) As per NSW Government guidelines with respect to indoor areas, if you have a face mask you are encouraged to wear this where practical during before, during & after the event https://www.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/face-masks
3) Observe the social distancing rules at all times in and out of the venue
4) Go to the Venue’s Check in area & then proceed to the event registration area for that venue as directed 
One of our “SHBC COVID Marshalls” will be at the venue registration area in addition to the venue staff to assist all attendees
5) Once you have registered you will be allocated your table number, which has a maximum number people per table in line with current Health Department rules

All Service team members at our events will comply with wearing of Face Mask rules, when working at the event (E.g. Venue teams, Events team, Greeters/Connectors).
